Inspired by the sounds of modern New York City Post Punk, Aways Away was formed in 2009 by Evan de Augustinis. With a desire to combine melodic vocal elements with a driving rock sound, Evan placed an ad for a lead guitarist on Craigslist, which was answered by Joe Micalizzi. They worked out a dueling guitar sound and early incarnations of Evan's songs began to take on a new life. In need of a drummer, Joe met Michael Lyon at a party and recruited him for an audition. Mike's dynamic drumming was a great addition to their layered, textured, guitar sound. The band began to incorporate the sounds of NYC Pre-Punk bands into their songs. When it became difficult to find a bassist who fit in with the band’s new direction, Evan called his friend Silvano Dragone, who agreed to join the band over a cup of Cappuccino and Cannolli.
The band began recording tracks and gigging in NYC in 2010. By the summer they decided to concentrate on a full length album that they would release independently. With the completion of their debut album, “Some Things We'll Never Know”, they began gigging again in 2011. The highly anticipated release is scheduled for May 2011.
