Hypnotic and haunting, like sound being injected directly into your bloodstream, CARI CLARA's new mini album You Better Run continues the moody love story which began on their recent full-length It's Our Hearts They're After. Displaying an artful mastery of storytelling, as well as song composition, Eric Diedrichs puts you on the edge of your seat with heartbeat-like rhythms and ghostly string arrangements which are deeply rooted to your heartstrings. His voice is drenched in yearning and the music is loaded with matching tension and beauty, not unlike a deeply emotional cinematic trailer. Mesmerizing, mysterious and magnetic, You Better Run hits all the right buttons with its self-searching melancholy, textural experimentation and poetic lyrics, pleading for the listener to heed the warnings of impending doom. You Better Run...indeed.
"Cari Clara has been an exploration into the darker side of myself, others and human kind. This record has a most important message: the ability to have hope in ourselves during hopeless times...with common society nipping at the heals of our dreams, trying to steal them from us. I wanted the songs to recall all the dark pieces in each of us and for listeners to identify and realize that we, ourselves, can find a way out" says Eric Diedrichs.
CARI CLARA is Eric Diedrichs (vocals, guitar), Mark Diedrichs (keyboards, synth), Jason Arbenz (guitar, backing vocals), Greg Tudor (synth, glockenspiel, percussion, backing vocals) and Josh Hagen (drums). You Better Run was performed, recorded, engineered and produced by Eric Diedrichs (the son of a cinematic composer father, a poet mother and former power-pop frontman of The Simpletons) in his home studio. Artwork by Ellie Herring. Deep Elm previously released the band's full-lengths "It's Our Hearts They're After" (DER-485) as well as "Miniature American Model Society" (DER-491). The band resides in Lexington, KY.
