By 2007, they are Brooklyn based and developing their sound into a hypnotic yet tongue-in-cheek style of synth-pop by drawing further inspiration from their new surroundings and from playing shows around Williamsburg and the Lower East Side with a thriving society of experimental pop magicians including MGMT, Yeasayer and Mixel Pixel.
The "Evident Utensil" 7 inch and digital download single was the first official release in January 2008. The NME called it "a charming pop oddity," Exclaim! gave it "immediate cult status," and RCRDLBL.com deemed it "the best single from a Brooklyn band since like TV on the Radio or something." Comparisons were made to The Knife, Of Montreal, and Yaz(!). It is a French website however, that gets it best, citing Chairlift is "just as at home in a David Lynch film as in the aisles of a supermarket." (Les Inrocks)
In the wake of their single, Chairlift got busy recording their debut album "Does You Inspire You" during late night and weekend sessions, while fitting in touring with MGMT, YACHT and Mixel Pixel whenever possible.
With the album now finished, Chairlift's schedule will be booked on the road for the rest of the year - starting this July on tour with Ariel Pink and embarking on an October tour with Yeasayer. There is a lot of ground to cover between Colorado and Brooklyn.
