If the seed of Jim Morrison were gestated in the womb of Sookie Stackhouse, and then born into a world out of a Robert Rodriguez film, The Chaw would best set sound track of the life of this bizarre hypothetical love-child protagonist. The Chaw's sound is very strong in character. Dark moody sounds, drenched in reverb, referencing soundtracks of the classic spaghetti westerns, big open bar chords and barky low register guitar leads ala Dick Dale, and psychedelic soundscapes, take you on a trip on a dusty trail through a vivid world, full of mystery, and intrigue. The music is not your typical hodgepodge of genres, a label fitting of the music of many newer bands these days. The Chaw, who have a very strong identity, transport us to a very specific place. Their unwavering style draws the listener in deeper and deeper throughout the record. By not muddling their audience's palate with superfluous or clashing musical ideas, The Chaw deliver a strong brew, bold and district in flavor. After spending 2010 writing music and rehearsing, The Chaw got their official start in Jan of 2011, when they played their first gig at a dive bar in their hometown. Vocalist and Guitarist, son a preacher, and frontman of The Chaw, Stephen has lived here and there throughout the United States. His father's "specialty" of fostering the growth of new churches throughout the US has taken Stephens childhood on a tour of the country. As an Adult, Jeff (bass) met Stephen at a Bay Area church of which, Stephen's father is now the preacher. They quickly discovered much common musical interest and decided to form a group. Each recruited another to fill out the group. Stephen enlisting his brother Jon, and Jeff, his friend from high school, Joe to play the drums. While recording an EP on tape at a Bay Area studio, Jon and the group severed working ties due to creative differences. An old band mate of Jeff's, Jarrod was brought on to replace Jon on guitar. Most recently The Chaw has finished producing and recording their self titled EP (out November 6, 2012). Having thrust all they have financially, emotionally, creatively, and spiritually into this project, The Chaw is already seen some well deserved return for the Effort - most recently headlining a number of shows within San Francisco and throughout Northern California. With a well defined mission and the dedication to the craft that they own, it is certain that the self-titled EP will be well received by the ever expanding fan base.
