Grounded in roots rhythm, Kiwi invokes a dynamic blend of familiar styles into their own, unmistakeable sound. Quirky and complex melodies with provocative lyrics in both English and Portuguese are complemented by soulful harmonies; and the driving grooves of 70's soul and R&B are infused with the improvisational sophistication of a jazz ensemble. With an extensive catalog of original music, Kiwi is poised to be a leading force in progressive roots music.

After nearly a decade of captivating audiences around the universe with co-founder and singing partner Vera Sousa, founder Alex Tea hit his stride with a fresh new lineup of musicians in 2010. Since then, Kiwi has kept busy performing frequently in the Tri-State area, and preparing a new record, slated for release in February 2013.

In addition to a burgeoning national following, Kiwi has a well established fanbase in Brazil, where they have performed several times over the years. They will be returning this March for a series of showcases in Sao Paulo.

Kiwi has also participated in a range of local festivals and community events. They are an active and established presence in the Jersey City arts scene.
