 Biography
Los Angeles-based musician Kristian Hoffman may be best known for writing pop hits including "Total Eclipse" for 80's mutant disco legend Klaus Nomi but his illustrious career has included many highlights. Kristian was the main songwriter for the highly regarded CBGBs era pop/punk band Mumps, which included vocalist Lance Loud, notorious gay son from the PBS award winning show An American Family.

Additionally, he has served as musical director for Rufus Wainwright as well as Ann Magnuson and he co-wrote and produced Ann's last album Pretty Songs and Ugly Stories. Hoffman has appeared on records by the Kinks' Dave Davies, El Vez, Lydia Lunch, Congo Norvell, Gary Valentine, and James White and the Blacks. On his last record, "&", he collaborated on duets with critical favorites including Stew, Maria McKee, Rufus Wainwright, Van Dyke Parks, and Anna Waronker.

In the live arena, Kristian toured for five years as keyboardist for Dave Davies, and has played in bands with Kid Congo Powers, Abby Travis and Lydia Lunch. Davies calls Kristian's new release Fop "a delightful album with lovely songs and sensitive and expressive performances." Other musician praise includes Ron Mael (Sparks) and Rufus Wainwright. Mael asserts that "At a time when musicians learn to compromise before they learn to play an instrument, Kristian Hoffman stands out as an example of what a true artist should be---someone who doesn't compromise and is able to strongly present his personal vision in his work. He is a beacon for those of us who are attempting to do the same." Rufus Wainwright declares that "Kristian Hoffman has managed to weave in and out of some of the hippest, most fun and not to mention craziest downtown art movements in both LA and New York over the last many years. It's rubbed off, within his sound is a musical wealth of having been there and seen it. Now buy this album and do the same thing for his bank account!" Fop is a 17 track gem that has been in the works for quite a bit. It showcases Kristian's gift for creating shimmering, cinematic and complex pop music. Rolling Stone has called him "one of the underground's best songsmiths" while the LA Weekly found his last solo release & "Frighteningly excellent! It's the record that every fan of the Beatles, the Beach Boys , the Kinks and great songcraft in general has been pining for." With regards to the creation of Fop, Kristian says that "I wanted to make the biggest, most grandiose album I possibly could as an independent artist. I see it as a combination of Bowie's Ziggy Stardust and the Moody Blues Days of Future Passed. It's sort of a gender-indeterminate fantastically appointed love letter to the apocalypse - candy-colored lifestyle suggestions for the end of the world."

The record was self-produced but features the amazing mixing and engineering skills of long-time collaborator Earle Mankey. Fop puts the lace cuffs onto everything from orchestrated Richard Harris bombast to Cramps-tinged garage fuzz, with a few nods to glam and vaudeville along the way. Also included is a duet with Prince Poppycock, who looks like a solid bet to end up in the top three of the current America's Got Talent. Poppycock also stars as Jesus in one of the three videos that have been created for the new album. The apocalypse has never sounded so divine. Let the music play.
