Mac L, also known as Mac tha Knife (born Malcolm D. Lockridge in 1988) was born in Nashville, TN. He developed a love for music at a young age and began writing rhymes at twelve, battling at fourteen, and making beats at sixteen. At the age of seventeen, he released his introductory mixtape, The Great American Paper Chase. Immediately after graduating high school, Mac enrolled in Middle Tennessee State University to study the music industry in 2006. In 2007, he became a featured artist in Cricket's Nashville Music Showcase. By the end of 2008, he became featured in 10 mixtapes. In 2009, he joined Team Legacy and became nominated for a Southern Entertainment Award for "Mixtape Rookie of the Year". In 2010, after opening up for the GZA/Genius of the world renown Wu-Tang Clan, he linked up with M. Will the Shogun (son of legendary superproducer Marley Marl) to release a teaser EP "Another World: The Preview" shortly after attaining his bachelor of science degree. His aim for success is focused on finding a balance between skillful wordplay, relevant meanings, and overall appeal, striving to break away from negative stereotypes that has plagued the current generation. With a college degree, a growing buzz and a strong presence in the underground, MTK is continuously expanding to push the boundaries of Southern Hip-Hop.
Mac L is currently working on his follow-up mixtape Raw Material, which is tentatively slated for a summer release. He refers to the tape as "a small glimpse of where I come from", referring to being heavily influenced by East Coast Hip-Hop. "Raw Material is me in my purest form. When you break down how certain products are made, you have the raw materials, which are the main materials used to create that product. That's what this mixtape is." Raw Material is scheduled for a late August release.
