 Interview
Interview by Sinist3r Punk

Before they went on stage at the Fire Escape in Citrus Heights I had a chance to talk with Machete outside in the freezing cold.

If I could just get everyone to say their names and what part they play in the band

One - Guitar

Sean - Bass

Roscoe - Vocals

Jeremy - Drums

How long have you been together and what has been your main goal as a band? What have you been trying to achieve together?

J - We've only been together about 7 or 8 months now and we're just trying to put out the best we can. We're a wide range of styles, we all come from different backgrounds

R - We're here to rock

O - We're here to help Sacramento stay on the map

With your debut album out, how do you feel you did? How do you feel about the overall sound?

O - Strong

S - Funky

R - Wicked

J - It rocks. We can't wait til you guys hear the new stuff because every time we write another song it just helps us progress and progress. It keeps the music building.

I have to ask, who's the mastermind behind the lyrics?

O - These 2 guys (Roscoe and Jeremy)

The song Shoo Goo (1983) is an anthem. How did you guys come up with the lyrics?

R - How old are you?

17

R - Go through another like 10 years in relationships and you'll understand it.

*Laughter*

R - It's about fucked up bros, fucked up girls, drinking, partying, and putting it all together and goin you know what, im still here, and if you can still stick around, like we can still stick around. You know?

J - You just gotta go through it and you'll know. That's all it's about you know. Living life, through the ups and downs and all the fun either way.

So I know Sean, you've been through a number of bands, Minus Halo, etc. What have you guys been through just musically and how do you think it has helped you develop into Machete?

Everyone - Well I think we all have a long love for playing music and playing live shows. I think thats where it mainly comes from. It's all about the love for the music. All four of us got blessed. We had to write the album in a hurry and it came out not sounding like we did it in a hurry.

S - How many bands have we all been in? I've got four

R - I've got 5

J - I've got 3. We're in the teens or twentys. So we have a lot of background.

R - We've also seen like EVERY local band in Sacramento not to mention you know like all the bands that have signed and been around the world. We've really honed in on what Sacramento really likes and what they groove on. Our songs, they have a lot of groove in them.

So I have to ask, what's been the greatest like high point, the focal point of just being in the band as of now?

Everyone - The album. The product that we make. Having it out there and being able to throw it down. There's a lot of pride in what we accomplished.

This question might sound I guess a little harsh but if, when you guys get signed, I'm sure your going to get signed you have an amazing sound, but when you get signed do you think your sound will change at all from just being local? I know a lot of bands when they sign, their sound changes and then a lot of fans tend to shy away from them. Do you have a fear of that?

Everyone - That all depends on if your going to stay friends with your fans. Are you really going to consider people your fans or are you going to be like music lovers yeah i love music too. Like fan bases and all that notoriety and all that crap.

R - I mean look at Lemmy

*Laughter*

R - Cmon dude, Lemmy is putting on his like 20th album. Walking around with a bottle of Jack Daniels and hangs out. You just gotta keep your respect for the love of rock and roll.

If anyone wants to add any last bits about how their feeling. About to go onstage just how do you feel right at this very moment?

O - City 916

J - Feel like im about to throw up.

R - Hey some people rock a lucky rabbits foot. I rock a pocket of puke.

*Laughter*

Well great words spoken by great musicians. That's an interview with Machete.
