Marlon Rando's sound can be considered standard rock and roll or "bop and roll" as they like to call it. In the midst of the Brooklyn hipster, lo-fi revolution, the duo takes a step forward coining their music as mid-fi or "middle of the road fidelity."
"In the days where solid home recording software is readily available, there no longer seems to be a point in running vocals through a cassette player over distorted guitars and minimal drums. People deserve something more audible that requires a little more effort," Greg Timmes says. With a different direction, Marlon Rando still fits in the wide context of the Brooklyn scene, but what sets them apart is their tone and throwback style on top of elaborate drums, and of course the distinct fidelity of their recordings. "I am still a firm believer in the idea that 'less is more' and I can appreciate minimalism in any form," states Timmes. "In regards to Marlon Rando we are coming from a different angle and playing the Brooklyn Indie Rock scene by our own rules."
Drummer, Jeff Wilkins comes from a jazz background, but the Influences for Marlon Rando range across the board from bands like Harlem, The Smashing Pumpkins, and The Modern Lovers to The Zombies, Sam Cooke, Artie Shaw, and Bennie Goodman.
