Life, and high school in particular, in a small town on the Swedish west coast can be a strange time in a young man's life (I don't even wanna think about what girls have to go through...). How else could one hope to explain a band name like Venereal Disease and the demo titles "From Beer To Eternity" and "The Second Cuming Of.."..?
Shortly after completing their second demo, VD was (fortunately..) stripped down to Venerea, which was apparently the name of a rocket that the US were supposed to have sent up in the sixties to penetrate the planet Venus and find out what it was made of... Let's move on.
Venerea today is a very different band, lyrically and musically, still true to their original influences Bad Religion, The Hard-Ons, Gang Green, The Ramones etc, but over the years they have developed a lot as a band and their latest effort "One Louder" brilliantly com- bines fast melodic punk-rock with a much harder edge, all fuelled by a seemingly unlimited amount of energy!
Starting out on the long since defunct Brööl Records where they released three CDEP's (including the "classic", long out of print "Shake Your Booty" EP that in its different formats went on to sell more than 15,000 copies) Venerea have spent the past few years on various German labels. The first stop was at Gift Of Life who after putting out an album consisting of the last two CDEP's and their first proper full-length "Both Ends Burning" went into financial difficulties and were forced to close down. The success of their vari- ous EP's attracted a lot of label interest and two more albums came out on German labels, "Losing Weight, Gaining Ground" (on Renate / Community Records) and "Out In The Red" (People Like You / Century Media), before the band signed with Bad Taste Records early spring 2005.
Throughout all this the band has toured Europe relentlessly, both as headliners and on various support tours. Among other things they did a full European tour with Ten Foot Pole (Epitaph / Victory / Go Kart) and they were also a part of the Vans Off The Wall tour with Ignite, SNFU, Deviates and Powerhouse.
The new album, "One Louder", was recorded at Berno Studios (Satanic Surfers, The Haunted, Amon Amarth etc) between October 2004 and January 2005 and will be released in Europe in April / May (April 11:th on mainland Europe, May 23:rd in the UK). The first European tour starts on April 13:th and besides European summer festivals and a second European tour during fall Venerea also have their sights set on doing their first North American tour on this album as well as visiting Asia for the first time!
