RecommendAs unappealing the term "Naked Willie" may sound, the album is worth overlooking the title.
Naked Willie is a collection of 17 Willie Nelson tracks originally recorded for RCA Records between 1966-1970. Much like The Beatles' Let It Be Stripped, Naked Willie sees the original recordings taken back to their bare bones.
Producer Mickey Raphael uses the original master tapes from Nelson's sessions and judiciously removes the orchestrations and backing vocals. The results are simpler, more intimate versions of the songs. It gives a great impression of what they sounded like when the Red-Headed Stranger first penned them.
If you are a Willie Nelson fan you can't go wrong with Naked Willie.
