The roots of The Poison Arrows go back to Justin Sinkovich of Atombombpocketknife and a solo side project. As side projects tend to go, The Poison Arrows has melded into a full project with Adam Reach and Patrick Morris (Don Caballero). First Class, And Forever is the group's second full-length album and it's very impressive.
On the second track, "Total Beverage", you can't help but feel some influence from bands like Secret Machines. The backing instruments are very machine like but the wonderful bass line provided by Morris reminds of Shellac or other post rock acts. Interesting seeing that Steve Albini recorded First Class. The band has a big post-rock vibe to them but there is a huge resemblance to one of my old favorite 4AD artists, New Wet Kojak.
The Poison Arrows do have a familiar but fresh sound. It's post-rock but done well. I don't think anybody will be blown away by First Class, And Forever but there will be many that will enjoy their sound.
