His Name is Alive has come into their own with their Someday My Blues Will Cover The Earth. It is a smoky R&B album tinged with their style of electronic beats. They prove themselves as a band that isn’t afraid to venture into new ground. It adds a bit more to R&B that one would hear today with a little more interesting samples and beats but Lovetta Pippen’s vocals have really come around. She is a real jazz diva here with her beautifully stated voice, which never gets to be too much. She holds back in all the right places and lets her voice waver when need be. Lovetta wouldn’t sound out of place on a compilation with Erika Badu. I think His Name Is Alive has really come into themselves and found what makes them happy. It’s about time, considering that this is their tenth album. Someday My Blues is appropriate for those late-night romancing sessions even with the depressing lyrics.
