I've been missing out on this great Ontario band because I've handed the last couple albums off to others for review. I figured it was about time I became familiar with Toronto's The Ghost Is Dancing and Battles On is a great album to do so. This is indie pop the way it should be done. The band is quite experienced now so you'll find a very mature pop band here. That doesn't mean that the band has lost their sense of fun as well. In fact fun is a big part of The Ghost Is Dancing. The music has a pleasant vibe throughout the entire album. 

Some of the songs like "Battles Off" get pretty big and ambitious but the band is quite capable of handling these. They offset these big songs with lovely little acoustic tracks like "Was A Universe". It's these dynamics that makes Battles On such a nice complete listen.

They save one of the best tracks, "Without Friends" for the last. It kind of reminds me of The New Pornographers. If you like them, The Ghost Is Dancing should appeal to you, AND they're Canadian too.
