This local Calgary band has been playing jaw-dropping shows now for over 2 years and there is no sign of them slowing down. Danish Documentary is Hot Little Rocket’s sophomore effort and there is definitely no slump here. This is a band that seems like it doesn’t give a shit but their music results in some of the best indie rock that Calgary (Canada for that matter) has ever seen. It’s almost as if the vocalist is just spitting out a story and his voice is verging, hell it does, on breaking up into screams and crackly singing. In the meantime, the rest of the band plugs away ignoring the vocalist. They take lessons from local legend Wagbeard as well as rock stalwarts, Jawbox. Their music is as dynamic as others that have come before them, but for some reason Hot Little Rocket has hit a soft spot in this reviewer’s heart. The band can crank out rockers like the opening track “Vive Death! that gets you primed and pumped for what’s to come or slow things down and stay away from the cheese as they do in “Firesale. Hot Little Rocket will be bringing the crowds to the Night Gallery for years to come if they keep up this kind of quality songwriting.
