The Hundreds and Thousands is a brand new band that Nettwerk Records has signed up. What's the big deal? Well, band members Ian LeFuevre, Peter Von Althen and Maury LaFoy, all formerly of Ottawa's Starling were bordering on success with their previous band. For some reason they hung up their aspirations on that band and came up with the name The Hundreds and Thousands. Why the change of face (or name in this case)? LeFuevre was writing material for Starling but the music had a much different characteristic than Starling's previous outings so a new name was developed.

The music - Damn, if this isn't some of the best power pop to come out of Canada in a while. It's quite straight forward but well crafted music. The music has British leanings giving me a little Supergrass vibe. The first single, "Rat Race" has a very driving beat behind it that brings the song into a new level. But that's not all this band is capable of. I think that's what really makes me grab onto this band is the diversity. Not diverse enough that each song has to regain your faith but enough that you don't get bored. That happens a lot with power pop but The Hundreds and Thousands have a fantastic vibe and a very professional sheen to their production that they just might make it. The band doesn't hold onto the magical 3 minute pop song. They play with the formula writing songs that are a little more developed than that. Take "Don't Talk To Me" and you have quite a nice ballad that could easily slide onto radio at this moment. No need to dwell on the mellow because they get the party going again on the rambunctious "Parade". This is the sort of roller-coaster ride the band takes you on. Check out The Hundreds of Thousands before there are Thousands and Millions clamoring to see and hear this Ontario band.
