Paper Bird makes music that is authentically old-time and utterly modern at the same time, mixing up 20's style trombone and stand-up bass with entrancing female harmonies reminescent of the Be Good Tanyas. You could listen to this album on a near-continuous basis for days (I have) simply smitten by the beauty of the vocal arrangements and acoustic instrumentation. But the lyrics on this album are just as great as the music, offering everything from 'get up and feel good in the morning' music to perfectly poignant songs of dreamy surrealism and love. This is one of my favorite albums, and Paper Bird is quite possibly my favorite indie band. Go out and get this disc, and see the band live if you can. This is what modern roots music is all about-or ought to be.
