The translation of this title is something like “The Glare of the Sky Is Insupportable and the artist is Hrsta (pronounced “hursh-tah). Hrsta is in fact a project by Mike Moya who is a founding member of godspeed you black emperor and Molasses. It is quite a mind opening album that ventures into similar ground as Moya’s other efforts but even more subdued. Mike does most of the vocals on the album and he reminds me a bit of Thom Yorke but much quieter. His music is always haunting; Hrsta is no exception with eerie bowed instruments like cymbals and saws. There is no hurry to get anywhere. The only concern Mike has is to provide the listener with a thoroughly expansive recording with fresh sounds and dark overtones. Hrsta succeeds on each of these points. There is no repetition here amongst the 13 songs. This Montreal base artist is one of those people whose great ideas easily outnumber his bad. He brings in many of his bandmates from his other bands making Hrsta a complete success. The only thing I didn’t care for was the completely paper case. With all my handicaps it was a bit frustrating.
