Experimental doesn't usually grab my attention. Sure from time to time I enjoy some atmospheric blend to relax and read to. But not often enough to add Echo Us to that collection. I respect the effort Echo Us has here, and I even get the diversity they use, going from soft waves of electronica to heavy metal edge guitars, harp twangs, and organ vibe. I just cant seem to catch on completely to their mix. The entire recording is not a waste, and you have some strong tracks here, such as "And Sea To Sky (Bon Voyage)" which has a nice groove and melody, but the vocals are left behind until a violin saves the day. In terms of production, I've always enjoyed the indie feel, but here, the vocals are given an "echo" that is less than enjoyable. One song that the 80's in me certainly enjoyed and seems to break molds is "From Snow To Sea".
This is more than your garden variety experimental electronica release, and I respect the concepts they use to intrigue the mind. Now available through www.echous.net is the Notebook for Echo Us' second album, The Tide Decides. The notebook comes as an online e-book and also includes full lyrics from the album. But this is just not for me...Have a listen to "Fantastic Elevation" for a perfect example of how these guys are maybe a little overbearing. I'm positive these guys will make a splash in the Europe mark. Again, great experimenting, just not executed properly.
