The problem with gimmicks is that they can get old quite fast, and they constantly need to be reinvented in order for any interest to be maintained. Miami Bass Warrior Otto Von Schirach has made a name for himself as the foremost producer of IDM with such filthy bass it's as pornographic as the samples he uses. Unfortunately for the superhero-DJ this album showcases little progression in a positive sense.
It has its good points of course, singles Romance in the Club and Dance like a Hoe are sexual electronica, with some unimaginably deep bass and are eminently danceable if you're in a dirty enough club (or strip joint). But aside from these the album as a whole feels like a pretty contrived effort. Still utilising the extreme and bizarre drum and bass that was present on previous efforts the album rides along on an electro current of unpredictability. However it feels like a good idea that's been stretched too thin for too long. The standouts are the tracks that steer away from this path of horror and porn madness to create something new; notably a collaboration with DJ Scotch Egg which uses his glitch hardcore to great effect.
This is an effort which is very different to most electro albums you'll hear out there, but for someone who prides himself on being different this is unfortunately samey. Like Marilyn Manson before him the shock has worn off and the music hasn't advanced enough to get you listening to this album for any length of time; in a similar fashion to Manson this is much more appealing act live than recorded.
