Apocalyptica defies definition, and their album Worlds Collide shares this trait. A superb blend of metal and rock, this album is full of the wailing, singing cellos that Apocalyptica fans have come to love, creating an extremely distinctive metal sound. The album is amped up with passionate drumming, which, although heavy in the tradition of metal music, is never overwhelming, and blends well with the rest of the music. Guest singers such as Corey Taylor of Slipknot and Adam Gontier of Three Days Grace make some songs, such as I Dont Care more lyrically friendly, while other songs, such as Grace, are left as instrumentals but spiked with guest guitarists or drummers.

It seems like Apocalyptica left a little something for everyone here, whether theyre new fans or old. The music is melodic and tilts a little bit toward the rock end of the spectrum, making it a good choice for music fans that arent looking to have their minds melted with harsh metal. Stand out tracks for me are Grace, one of the best instrumentals Ive ever heard, I Dont Care, a rocking ballad, and Im Not Jesus, one of the albums powerful singles. The title track, which is the first song, is also rather stunning, bringing the album to roaring life. Things get a little dark with Helden, a German cover of David Bowies Heroes, and take a turn for the slow and sappy with S.O.S., but overall, this eleven song album is a winner.
