Lead Vocalist, Debbie Diamond, lead the Januaries straight from the 60's into the new millenium with style. The Januaries come from Los Angeles and rely on many throwback styles but never wear anything out. They're one of those bands that you have to find something bad to say about them but can't find a single thing. They are a five piece that name Rick Boston (Low Pop Suicide) as co-leader with Debbie. At times (rocking songs) the band reminds me of Shirley Manson's Garbage only not near as effect laden. When Debbie takes on a ballad like 'Cinema Girl' she sounds like The Cardigans but even sexier. 'The Girl's Insane' could easily fit on any old bossa nova album like Getz / Gilberto. It just goes to show that borrowing from the past can be a good thing as long as you are forward thinking as well. When the album is done and over with you just kind of scratch your head because it was an experience you don't quite understand but you enjoyed just the same.
