Blake Schwarzenbach is a guy whose voice I totally admire. It’s not that it’s totally different than anything I have heard but he always sounds so sincere whether he’s rocking out hard or crooning like he does on Perfecting Loneliness. Blake introduces some mellow Canadiana on this album due mostly to his time spent in Nova Scotia writing most of this material. He states that this album is “about a search for God, search for love, and the failure to find both. On that depressing note let me continue with this mellow and very personal album review. The songs are very mellow folk-pop songs that are really expansive in their sound. The sound is full and yet minimalistic on most of the tracks. The group creates a broad sound and something completely different that any of the band members have ever done previously. The guitars provided by Brian Maryansky are brilliant and impressive. Blake also states “It’s about a chronic fuck-up, someone in a cycle of failure that’s addictive. Call it a theme album, call it an emo album; it’s damn good whatever way you cut it. Jets To Brazil have done it yet again.
