Dappled Cities have developed something of a cult following in Australia (or so my contact down under tells me) and listening to 'Zounds', it's no surprise why. The music is mature, the production is excellent and the talent is obvious.
High points just keep on coming right from the start - the take-off is a wonderfully energetic ballad called 'The Price', which is quite akin to some of the Flaming Lips' sound, but not in a bad way. Clever lyrics and lovely vocal delivery, complete with falsetto - lovely stuff. Later on we also have 'Middle People' and 'The Night Is Young At Heart'.
Lows? Not many. The opening track 'Hold Your Back' drags a little, but nothing else stood out apart from the usual debut holes - however it is obvious that this band have a prett good idea of where they're going and where they want to be in the end. A big nine from me.
