I've always said I love going into a review having absolutely no idea what to expect and getting a face full of good music. Play The Angel is a new Canadian band coming from Quebec that plays some pretty decent pop-rock with a smattering of punk just for credibility. They've just released an EP full of quite powerful rock songs that could stand with the best on modern rock radio at the moment. Toss out Matchbox 20, Thornley, Our Lady Peace or Days Of The New, take on Play The Angel instead. I think they've got more stamina than most of the rock bands going on the radio right now. No, they aren't all that original but they do this thing quite well. Even the ballad on the EP, "You And Me" is very listenable. The prime candidate for a single is "Ready Or Not" with a very singable chorus. The band is tighter than spandex and have some great songs in tow.

The term "play the angel" means putting on a fake facade in order to gain approval. If this band is "playing the angel" then they are doing a pretty good job. The group is very good at what they do, creating rock songs that go down very easily.

Play The Angel is one of those bands that once the right person hears their music they will blow up. There is no possible way that this band stays down in the indie depths for long.
