Now that the Neckbones have run themselves into the ground, the lead guitarist is the first to make a post break-up effort and man is it hot. Tyler Keith has gathered up the Preachers Kids (which happen to be also known as Blue Mountain) and gone back to the garage for another session. When you do an album with a prolific roots band such as Blue Mountain you would expect some of their influence to come through in the music. Not so. Nary is there any tracks that sound at all like Blue Mountain which just shows how far their talents actually lie. In reality, Tyler Keith is every bit as rough and tumble as the Neckbones ever were. Tyler establishes a sense of the blues while not wrapping his arms around it. He sticks to the garage rock sound a little more. Imagine if you will, Jon Spencer is a old Ford pick-up truck and he’s barreling through the Mississippi hills with Howlin Wolf being pulled along behind. Whatever way you put it, Romeo Hood is a great slab of grungy roots rock that’ll put hair on your chest.
