This is the second EP from a little-known-but-great Nottingham postpunk outfit. Their first, 'Think', met with mixed reviews to say the best of it, and was, generally speaking, thrashy and annoying. Needless to say we all were a little anticipant of this offering, but my fears at least have turned out to be largely unfounded.
Lovvers have retured to their more melodic pop sound for 'OCD Go Go Girls', but managed to keep the punk-from-days-of-yore energy. They've produced a record from the bygone days of punk music, when writing your own songs and 3-chord riffs were standard. It's got scuzzy guitar hooks, barely comprehendable vocals and a certain anarchic quality that makes you want to smash up all the crappy EPs you were told to buy. Sounds appealing, no?
Well, to be frank, it is. True, there's nothing here that will inspire an epiphany but it's noisy, rampantly energetic and most of all, swaggeringly clever. In short, everything a 70's punk record should be.
