Kid With Man Head are a pop-punk band from New Jersey and are about as exciting as that description is. Oh sure, there are some catchy moments and some smart hooks, but there is nothing fresh and nothing that you couldn't find on any post-punk record from bands like The Promise Ring or The Get Up Kids. In fact, what they are lacking that the aforementioned bands have in spades is that kind of cheeky charm. A band that is trying to squeeze into the crowded pop-punk market needs a kind of hook, but this band just takes itself too seriously-- especially for a group with a name like Kid With Man Head. Not that serious is a bad thing, it goes fine for a group like Radiohead. But lines like "The day you were born/the planets showed you what they lined up for" are just distracting from music that exists only to bop your head to. The record is a harmless one, but it only achieves that status by not taking any risks.
