Kilowatthours have finally arrived with their full length debut album on Temporary Residence. "Is it good?", you ask? Well let's disect the newest addition to the emo rock genre that Sunny Day started so many years ago. The album opens with "That You Played", a 6 minute opus that starts out with a moody piano intro, builds up to add a heavily distorted guitar or two and then, finally, wistful vocals are added. This track is a good introduction to what your getting into with Strain Of Positive Thinking. I would also easily compare the band to fellow emo-rockers Elliott, not just because one of the members used to be in the band but their dynamics are very similar. Kilowatthours tend to be a little more uplifting but not quite as heavy as Elliott manages at times. Special mention for the band and their cover of Velvet Underground's "Candy Says"; dark but very beautifully done.
