Straight from the Mark Kleiner Power Trio tear sheet: “If the only one who could ever reach you was the son of a preacher man, look no further than Mark Kleiner Power Trio. Apparently, Mark is the youngest child of a Lutheran minister and Kleiner himself was training to become a minister himself. He quit it all for rock n roll. He found a bass player, Pete Mills and teamed up with Kurt Dahle (New Pornographers, Limblifter) and created one of the most sugary power pop bands to ever come out of Canada. Kurt proves himself as both a songwriter and a singer on Love To Night and proves that he has chosen the right bandmates with the awesome harmony vocals from Kurt. This album feels like it comes from the 80’s along the lines of past Canadian popsters Pursuit of Happiness but there is more sugar than Pursuit ever had. They almost hit on McCartney styled Beatles in a few places and although there are no instant singles that stand out, you will find yourself hitting repeat often. It looks like Mark Kleiner made a wise decision both with career and backing musicians.
