As I dutifully run through the denizens of my old home town I come to Our Twilight Pastime, who, like Fortunes and Spirit has made an entirely imperfect album, that I still love.
Again, this is pretty but that is in spite of, not because of singer Mike Goldense's voice. He doesn't have a traditionally strong voice and perhaps even more damning (or wonderful depending on your point of view) he doesn't necessarily write melodies that play to the strengths of his voice. Sort of like on Unplugged in NY when Kurt Cobain does those Meat Puppets covers well out of his singing range.
I would say, if this album has a flaw, (besides technical prowess and who cares about that anyway) it's that there's so much pure emotion, it almost feels heavy under that burden.
That aside, the songs are lively and vital and this is one of those wonderfully imperfect albums like the Creek Drank the Cradle, where normal concerns are simply moot. I love this album and I wish Mike the best of luck, a perfect 10/10 for you!
