This new San Francisco bay area band is extremely experimental. Their title of this album actually runs on for quite a bit more but I thought I would save some space. It was culled from an Italo Calvino story entitled “The Mine Field. It seems they wasted all their efforts on the album title and had no creativity for naming their instrumental album tracks. The consist of sole Roman Numerals, I through to VII. Lumen provide a very soothing atmospheric album that is solely instrumental and great for relaxing to. There is quite a variety of instruments being used on The Man and they are all suited to what Lumen are trying to do. It’s surprising that the members also belong to A Minor Forest and Tarantel because Lumen comes off so smooth and elegant. The songs never sound the same despite them all being instrumentals. Some sway and swing while others pick up a little more steam. For a first album, Lumen have provided us a template for instrumental albums to use in order to keep a listeners interest peaked.
