I've been keeping my eyes on this metal band for a few years now, especially when a band contains a member of doom metal pioneers Sleep. Blessed Black Wings really set the pace for this band. Snakes For The Divine is High On Fire's first album for their new label, E1 Entertainment and I would argue their best album to date. It seemed like it was never going to be unearthed but 3 years later we have the tastiest High On Fire album.

Why is it tasty? The songs are huge, the riffs are larger than life and Pike's voice is sounding more and more like a hell-ravaged Lemmy Killmeister (as if he wasn't ravaged enough). No, High On Fire is not Motorhead. There are times when Motorhead does come to mind but thats where the similarities end. "Bastard Samurai" sounds like Lemmy singing for Sleep. But then you get furious tracks like "Ghost Neck" which are breakneck in every way imaginable.

If you thought you knew High On Fire before, you may be surprised at what they have unleashed on Snakes. Either way, you need to check out this album if you like thick metal that has a lot of substance. Easily the best metal album of the year thus far.
