There seems to be a bit of interest in this new In Music We Trust band. The Maroons’ front man, John Moen, is currently the drummer for Stephen Malkmus’ band and keyboard player, Mike Clark plays guitar and keyboards for Malkmus. Moen has been also making a name for himself with Elliott Smith, The Spinanes, and The Fastbacks. The Maroons’ lead guitar player, Jim Talstra has done time with Minus 5 and No. 2. You’re Going To Ruin Everything is not the Maroons’ debut album. They released an album back in 1995 entitled I Am To Blame and have never followed it up until now. So fans and luminaries alike will be excited to see this album surface and let me tell you that you should be excited too. This is a super fine album that plays on all sorts of sweet pop elements. The guitar riffs are sticky and sweet and Moen’s vocals are there to coax you closer until you are sucked right in. The Maroons never really get too loud. They are happy with keeping the listener attuned to the gentle changes and sweet choruses. I am very excited to have had the opportunity to listen to their sophomore album.
