Doug Martsch is a favorite in the alternative music scene and his Built To Spill band has been on top of the scene for a number of years. Well, 2002 marks something different for Doug. He is releasing his very first solo album entitled Now You Know. It really isn’t a far cry from where he has been going with Built To Spill but he does manage to throw in a few extra influences into the mix. The biggest one being blues. Have a listen to “Woke Up This Morning With My Mind On Jesus and the following “Instrumental and you can hear a Mississippi Blues style creep into the sounds that we have become accustomed to with Built To Spill. As with most Built To Spill albums Now You Know does take a couple of listens to fully appreciate with Doug’s meandering vocals but the charm is there. Now You Know is not just for Built To Spill fans (they will find much enjoyment out of it though), it’s also for contemporary blues and indie fans. It’s a well crafted and well executed album.
