Matthew - Everybody Down
Matthew is one of those bands that may or may not go places. They have a sound that could be fairly accessible if enough people actually heard them but there really isn’t anything that really sets them apart from other bands. Everybody Down is a dramatic album that throws off your senses every time vocalist Brian McSeeney hits one of his crazy notes and gets you thinking you have heard it all before. Don’t get me wrong, Matthew is a talented bunch of guys playing orchestral style pop that soars and reaches some pretty intimate places. Brian sings quite similar to Jeff Buckley or Thom Yorke and the instrumentation is pretty well done. Matthew’s style of rock is emotional and heartfelt. They have the kind of style that would nicely fit into AOR radio alongside the likes of Lifehouse, Matchbox 20 or even Radiohead for that matter. It’s simple, if you like emotionally heartfelt rock, Matthew will grab you and may even demand more attention than any other album. If the extent of your emotional rock is Radiohead’s The Bends then you better be looking elsewhere for your next favorite album.
