Matt Pond PA is just what the doctor ordered. I have been stressed out recently due to many factors that have just kind of appeared and Matt’s band is a pleasant pop experience that goes down like a cold soda on a hot day. It’s actually the first time I have heard Matt Pond PA but I now know that I have been missing out. He (they) has been around since 1997 making this quiet, introspective music that is very heartfelt. The Nature of Maps really reminds me of some band but I can’t quite figure it out. It’s got a bit of a retro feel to it but I really can’t place it. There is some pretty ambitious instrumentation on The Nature of Maps that really completes what Matt is trying to get across with his songwriting. This is half of the pleasure. While Matt insists that the name isn’t an indication that this is his band by any means, he is still the focus with the songwriting. It’s OK Matt; you’re a good songwriter. These songs just make me feel happy with their bouncy rhythms and such. Matt Pond PA is one of the most inspired indie bands going today and the Nature of Maps is a great addition to their catalog.
