It's hard to believe that the Mayflies USA have only been around for 3 years. Their style of power pop took Teenage Fanclub at least 5 years to perfect and out comes this band and masters power-pop in 3 years. Crazy. The vocal harmonies and jangly guitars all add to the satisfying mix here. Speaking of mix they recruited ex-dBs singer Chris Stamey to do the knob twiddling. All the songs are cheerful and provide a sense of accomplishment do mostly to the confidence the band shows. Guitar solo's wail with a steady beat keeping time. The Pity List is a little more rocking than their last effort, Summertown, and sometimes it's a little unnerving how much they remind me of Matthew Sweet. True power pop fans will totally appreciate Mayflies USA.
