The Mountain is a big place, and Kickland covers a lot of musical territory is this epic work, arguably the summit of his musical output to date. Not many contemporary artists can execute a work of this magnitude and weave together such a coherent narrative through 18 unique and infectious tracks. Juxtaposing introspective moods ("The Valley," "While You Were Sleeping," and "Homesick on the Mountain") with wild adventures ("Bear Fight," "Thousands of Eyes," and "Mountain King"), Kickland's concept album is a diverse landscape with much to be discovered. The lyricism and guitar work is first rate, as we have come to expect from Kickland's excellent catalogue of solo material, but where The Mountain really stands tall is in its intricate instrumentalism and careful production--every part of The Mountain has been carefully mapped and plotted. Kickland has made it easy for us: simply download these tracks, put on a set of headphones, and prepare yourself for a great journey.
