With ingenius album Mahal and Diabate team up to discover the true roots of the blues - Africa. Again, breaking all musical boundaries Kulanjan succedes where other attempts have failed. Accompanying these two musicians is a Malian emsemble featuring a young Malian singer Ramatou Diakite. Diabate is sounding his best playing his kora (it's a twenty-one-stringed lute-like instrument). It is almost eerie how the two style blend together without flaw. The kora just seems to be a welcome addition to Taj Mahal's sound. When the two go back on forth on Fanta with a sort of barrelhouse piano and the kora it souns as if it was meant to be. This will most definitely be up for a Grammy.
