Straight out of America's heartland, Ohio-based folk rock band Lithium Seven jumps onto the scene with their first EP, Something Else is Waiting. Even though it's only a 3-tracker, this modest compilation boasts a promising sound.

Something Else is Waiting starts off strong with "Get to Montana,"  a nice alt-country tune with a sound so familiar, you'll be sure you've heard this little ditty before. "We're all living downstream from the fallen heartland, we're all eating corn out of someone else's hand, fill every inch of green 'til the grey is all we have." Americana-inspired lyrics paired with upbeat acoustic guitars paint a warm picture reminiscent of John Cougar Mellencamp's nostalgic take on the vanishing back-country, coming together to form a well produced radio-friendly track.

Interestingly, the EP's title track, "Something Else is Waiting" takes a things in a slower speed and direction, ultimately hindering the progression of this EP. With slightly forced vocals and melodramatic lyrics it often bears similarity to that of a locally owned Alterna-Christian rock band. Although, their attempt at salvation is not a total bust; a solid melody and beautiful instrumentation keep this one afloat in the end.

The closing track, "Arizona," is easily the best we've heard from this band yet. Gradually shifting in tempo and arrangement, "Arizona" takes you on a six minute journey, complete with ups and downs, delicate storytelling and an impressively smooth compilation. Sprinkled with the sound of a mandolin and an incredibly catchy hook, this one will win anyone over right from the start.

Though there may be a world of growth ahead for Lithium Seven,Something Else is Waiting is a solid representation of a new band that shows promise, although they have yet to nail down a signature groove.

I couldn't agree with you more, checked this out and this band is just missing that extra something that sets a special band aside. Arizona was a good track indeed.. 6.5 stars for the album, .5 for the great review!
