Hailed as Zimbabwe’s most popular singer, Oliver Mtukudzi, has just released his finest album to date. On Vhunze Moto (Burning Ember), Mtukudzi provides an album full of invigorating and refreshing rhythms. He mixes a perfect blend of African music and western influence to make his music accessible to the world. He is already a legend in Zimbabwe and the rest of concerned contemporary music afficianado’s in Africa. Oliver’s voice is very defined and recognizable instantly. Although subtle, the dance beat is infectious and you can’t help swaying to the beat right away. Back in the 70’s Mtukudzi would sing about Zimbabwe’s attempt to gain freedom and for racial equality. Now the message is a little more sombre and it’s about Zimbabwe and the world’s worst AID’s epidemic that has really hit Oliver’s family and band. Either way, the music is still great to bop along to and Oliver “Tuku Mtukudzi should see some global recognition for Vhunze Moto.
