Monuments and Melodies is the first greatest hits to come from Incubus. The first CD includes singles from Make Yourself up through Light Grenades. These are all the singles we know and love; in addition to these tracks the first disc includes two new tracks. The first song on the CD is titled Black Heart Inertia, a new track written especially for the greatest hits. This song features a powerful, but not over powering guitar, a driving bass line, and powerful vocals. Drums and turn tables really help fill out the song. The second new track on disc one is entitled Midnight Swim. This song has more of a heavier feel to it. The song is driven by guitar and drums, with vocals fitting over the top. The bass and turn tables help the song achieve a full sound. The second CD features unreleased songs, demos, alternate versions, a cover, and a new track. The new track Monuments and Melodies has a very different sound than the two previous new tracks. This track is much slower and darker sounding. The song features powerful vocals from Boyd, and guitar line that fits almost perfectly from Mike Einziger. Other notable songs from the second disc include a cover of Prince's song Let's Go Crazy, as well as Punch Drunk and Look Alive, two songs only found on the Japanese version of Light Grenades. The CD also featured a Certain Shade of Green performed by Time Lapse Consortium featuring Brandon Boyd. Overall this is a wonderful greatest hits release from the band. Great buy for all Incubus fans, but also for someone who does not know a lot about Incubus. This CD is great, but it could use several more tracks from Morning View, Nice to Know You and Warning are two essential tracks that should have been included. Overall Great CD 9/10
