This was New York City's ska-punk outfit Choking Victim's only full length release. That however does not change the quality of the material. No Gods, No Managers is chock full of ska and hardcore punk brilliance. For the uprising "Crack Rock Steady" scene from NYC, this is the quintessential album that started the whole subgenre of punk rock.
Scott Sturgeon's (Stza) vocals are unmistakable from his ultra scratchy singing on "Fucked Reality" to his full out death metal screams in "Fuck America". Though the death metal influence on some songs may be a turn off to punk fans at first, it is easily seen as a tongue and cheek musical reference.
Lyrical content is just as important in this release as is the instrumentals. They mostly deal with anti capitalism, anti government, and the use of drugs out of despair. If that isn't enough already, between songs there are clips of leftist political write Michael Parenti. It's an instant punk classic!
