First and foremost, you are probably asking yourselves, Who the heck is Melovine?. I also asked that question the first I time I saw them on amazon.com. They happened to appear under the, Other buyers purchased this. When I clicked the page to their mp3 section on amazon.com for the album Blight, I found myself pleasantly surprised. I imagine most of you know about Amazon.coms 30 second samples for each track, I found myself wanting more.

The Texan quartet showcases their amazingly powerful, emotional album, Blight to the world on July 19th 2011. Right from the beginning clean electric guitars to the scorching vocals at the end, Melovine has it all! Its very hard to categorize this album. At one point Blight sounds like metal at its heaviest (e.g. The Enemy) with crunching guitar riffs and stentorian bass lines and then switching to very ambient, atmospheric elements that would make bands like, Mogwai and The Red Sparrows jealous.

To call Melovine unique is an understatement. Their lead singer is what caught my attention on their first song Depopulate. There are too many bands that fall short because of their singers, what a shame. Luckily for us, Melovines lead singer has quite the range and has a decent scream, one where you can understand the lyrics, so no cookie monster vocals here folks. Trust me youll like them. The guitars soar above and beyond what most rock does today. The bass lines will make most bass enthusiasts happy as it sits very well in the mix. For drummers youll love the very progressive elements and time changes to the very technical double kick. Everything song seems very well constructed and timed perfectly. They do a great job of executing fun, yet though provoking music.

Blight sounds like what most progressive rock bands should be doing today. I think most get too caught up into trying to please a certain group of people. Youre either too metal or too technical or too mainstream. I think Melovine knows what they can do and delivers the best of their possibilities. I truly think that most music lovers will find something that they can enjoy from this album. I just wish that I would have heard of them sooner, as I regrettably found out that they played near my home last year.
As you finish up the last song Pluto on the record, youll probably want to restart the album from the beginning like I did. This album hit me very well the first time I listened, but has even grown with repeat listens. If you enjoy great music that actually means something rather than incessant noise, than give Blight a listen. You can find the album in its mp3 format on amazon.com and iTunes. Please go out and give the album a listen, as its one of my favorite rock albums of the year.
