Sharon Shannon is quite famous in her native country of Ireland but outside of that she is relatively unheard. The Diamond Mountain Sessions should change that with performances with the likes of Steve Earle (performing his “Galway Girl), Jackson Browne (doing “A Man of Constant Sorrow made famous by O Brother Where Art Thou), John Prine, and the Hothouse Flowers amongst some other less known artists. For those of you completely unfamiliar with Sharon, she alternates between the fiddle and the accordian (her accordian skills are really second to none). She can also be caught playing the high and low whistles. I would point out some highlights but the album is so good that that is too hard. There is a nice mix of instrumentals and vocal tracks and its impossible to pick which ones are better because the instrumentals are so lively. The inside liner notes say that she was inspired by Steve Earle when he was over recording some tracks for Transcendental Blues. She wanted the same relaxed feel and she got it. It feels just like some old friends gathering to make some traditional music.
