Värttinä is one of the greatest Finnish bands to grace our continent. They provide a contemporary roots based music with deep Finnish roots. With their latest release, Ilmatar, the collective injects fervor into their presentations and stir up all sorts of emotions in songs such as "Äijo". With five vocalists one can only imagine the types of harmonies the band is capable of. They also use Bouzoukis, brass instruments, accordians, assorted string instruments and a bunch of other instruments I have never heard of before. They are also at home now on the Nordic label, Northside, alongside such bands as Garmarna and Sorten Muld and shedding the expectations they had on their short major label stint. Looking for something different? Look no further than Värttinä.
