There is something extremely spooky about Mark Sandman's posthumous offering. I think the ghostly feeling would have even been there if Mark were still alive. The Night, for the most part, is an album that must be listened to in a dark room all by yourself in order to get the full effect. A couple of more upbeat tracks like "Top floor bottom buzzer" and "A good woman is hard to find" add a nice variety to the album. I think the most eerie thing about The Night is the final track, "Take me with you", as Mark sings "I don't care about the things I leave at home/'cause things can't really keep you company/When you're alone". I don't think I would be the only Morphine fan to say that The Night is their finest offering.

Agree completely with that last line. The night is by far the most mature work by Sandman and Co. Whenever I listen to the album I can't shake the feeling that he KNEW he was on his way out. Those songs don't get written with such mourning for one's own life otherwise. spooky stuff.
