Moving Units are one of this year’s new signings to Rx and distribution secured by Palm Pictures. They are a bit of a strange, or should I say interesting, bunch. Moving Units formed in December 2001 as a response to what the members refer to as “an uninspired music scene. It’s basically a duo with Chris Hathwell and Blake Miller and they added Johan Boegli. I’m not usually one to give EPs a second look but in Moving Units case I couldn’t help but listen to these four tracks multiple times. Their sound has a bit of a Brit-Pop sound to it ala Blur’s Damon Albarn but it’s a little strange as well. The integrate a bit of a New York sound like the Strokes into their rhythm and what they come out with is a winner. It’s a different sound but still vaguely familiar. It may have to do with their Gang of Four and Wire influences but they wear it well. I look forward to the Moving Units full-length.
