RecommendThe New Amsterdams is basically an outlet for Get Up Kids vocalist/guitarist Matthew Pryor to get out his mellower side, allowing him to focus on the energetic side of things for his full-time band. While at first this sounded like a dodgy prospect, an emo-band’s outlet for their too emotional songs, I was quite surprised and sighed a welcome relief to find that these are actually some pretty decent songs. While the New Amsterdams had a few members with their 2000 release, Never You Mind, Para Toda Vida is actually all Matthew. Don’t expect the Get Up Kids though. The better part of the album is completely acoustic. Pryor proves himself a very fine songwriter though. Fans of Dashboard Confessional step this way.
